  • DRCV is Two Shocks in One...

Description

Trek's Fuel EX 8 is primed for everything from backcountry rides to fun spins after work. Trek's aluminum frame is done right with an E2 tapered head tube, balanced geometry, and excellent stiffness throughout. For suspension, Fox and Trek teamed up to create an awesome 130mm-travel DRCV shock. The squish is controlled with Trek's ABP rear end and Full Floater linkage that keeps your rear suspension fully active and in control even when you're braking in the rough stuff. And up front, a 130mm travel Fox fork takes care of business. Complementing the trick frameset are light, fast and tough Bontrager wheels, sure-stopping Shimano discs and a 10-speed Shimano SLX/XT drivetrain for crisp, quick shifts every time.

Features & Info

Trek's Full Floater Shock Mount

Trek's Full Floater shock mount boasts two suspended points that allow the shock to "float" through its range of action for seemingly bottomless travel and excellent tracking over every type of terrain.

EVO Rocker Link

Trek's EVO rocker link is a one-piece, magnesium linkage that drastically increases rear-end stiffness and decreases total frame weight, too.

Alpha Platinum Aluminum

Trek’s premium lightweight aluminum is continuously cold extruded and butted at multiple points for ultimate weight reduction and superior strength. Frames built with Trek’s Alpha Platinum aluminum are hydroformed to create the most sophisticated shapes for the lightest weight, and are finished using their smooth-weld process.

Awful squeaky/noisy shimmano brakes

Pros:
Suspension, Durable, Lightweight, Handles Well
Cons:
Cheap Components
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, Urban Biking
since fuel ex 8 switched brakes from avid to shimmano you will never be able to get rid of the squeaky noise in the front wheels, not even the guys from shimmano or trek could fix it.

Great bike with a couple of concerns

Pros:
Balanced Suspension, Durable, Great handeling, Handles Well, Plush Feel, Lightweight
Cons:
Rear Derailleur Slips Gea, Hydraulic Brakes
Best Uses:
Urban Assault Vehicle, Urban Biking, Free Riding, Mountain Biking
The main problems I've had with this bike is the hydraulic brakes get air in the lines and have to be bled at the shop for $20 and the rear derailleur needs periodic adjusting as it will skip gears when shifting from low to high. Other than that this is a well made rugged bike that has taken some serious abuse and keeps on keeping on. Despite earlier concerns I highly recommend this bike.

2009 Fuel EX8

Pros:
Quick, Nimble
Cons:
Takes away family time
Best Uses:
ALL Mountain, Cross country
I previously owned a Novara Method 2.0. It was heavy and slow compared to the Fuel. I was constantly fighting the derailleurs on the Method but have had the Fuel for 2 years & it's only been in the shop once (besides the 30 day check) for an adjustment. The Fuel is a fun quick all mountain bike that handles well.

Great Single Trail MTB!!!

Pros:
Durable, Lightweight, Versatile
Cons:
Best Uses:
XC, Off road, Mountain Biking
I got the 2011 Fuel EX 8 late last year at a bargain price. Around [...] bucks I got a great deal! The bike is perfect for single trail riding! It's light enough to carry when needed but solid enough to withstand those bumpy rides along the XC! It's very responsive specially on the uphills! The Hydraulic disc brakes are phenomenal. Whenever I go off road biking I know I'm very well covered by the EX 8. Thanks to my wife for the gift!

This bike ROCKS!!!

Pros:
Durable, Great Components, Handles Well
Cons:
Best Uses:
Casual Riding, Mountain Biking, Downhill
I've had the bike now for two months and to be quite frank, this bike makes me a better rider! My only complaint is like most everyone else, the tires. I am about to put some Geax AKA's on it this week and I know it will make a huge difference in the traction b/c the bontragers just don't cut it. This bike is very quick and handles everything you throw at it. The SLX gears are great and I've not had a problem with the front or rear derailer as some have mentioned. Everything else on this bike is truly amazing and well worth the money. I truly look forward going riding each time out and crush the competition time and again.

Love the bike, Adore the Store

Pros:
Durable, Great Components, Lightweight, Handles Well
Cons:
Best Uses:
Downhill, Free Riding, Mountain Biking
Love the bike, it's definitely at home on the dirt trails and more difficult downhill trails, not the best thing if you ride on the road. The reason being is that this thing loves to turn, and it responds very quickly to your input, so it takes some getting used to. But the best part was buying from summit city. Staff was great, and more than helpful. They were very honest and forthcoming with everything. They asked questions to understand my needs and wants, and got me everything I needed. If you buy a bike in Fort Wayne, you must buy it from Summit City

Bring it on!!

Pros:
Lightweight, Handles Well, Plush Feel, Balanced Suspension, Durable
Cons:
Cheap Components
Best Uses:
Free Riding, Mountain Biking, Downhill
I started Mountain Biking back in 06. After carefully evaluating my options and my budget, I decided to give Trek a shot. Boy did I make the right choice!! I purchased the Fuel EX8 because it seemed like the right bike for the price. Boy was I not mistaken. From the start, this bike gave me the confidence to attack any obstacle due to it's handling and balance. I believe that I've become a better rider since my early days due to this bike. For if it wasn't for it's well rounded capabilities, my learning curve would have been a lot slower. Overall, an AMAZING BIKE!!! Since purchasing this bike, I have graduated onto the Remedy 9.8 (but that's another story).

Black Magic

Pros:
Handles Well, Balanced Suspension, Durable, Plush Feel
Cons:
Best Uses:
Free Riding, Downhill, Mountain Biking, Casual Riding, Urban Biking
As a means of transportation to my area to workout I ride everyday as a means for exercise. The freedom to go any where at any time. Having the ability to commute to work and back. No getting stuck in traffic jams. No car note to pay. No insurance to pay. No gas to pay. I believe there are some design flaws with gear changing.

Dont hear anyone BS you - This is by far the best MTN BIKE for the money. I started mountain biking in early 2007. I could not have made a better decision than to buy myself a 2010 EX8. Its a heart pounding experience at every turn, fast and very smooth.

Very nice bike!

Pros:
Handles Well, Plush Feel, Durable, Balanced Suspension
Cons:
Cheap Components, Heavy
Best Uses:
Mountain Biking
I had the stock cranks replaced with the XT crank and the bike is even better! It climbs with ease and I can ride over roots/rocks/bumps without getting thrown one way or the other. It is surprisingly nimble and smooth. My weakness has always been downhill technical sections, but with this bike I feel more in control because I know the suspension will ride over anything. The bike is heavier than what I am accustomed to though, but I just have to get used to it and improve my fitness level. I trail ride on the weekends. On my hard tail, I could only last 1.5 hours max, but with the Fuel EX8 I can ride for atleast 2.5 hours. I love the look, design and all the technology behind the 2010 Fuel EX 8! The ABP and evo link is the real deal, it is not a gimmic.

Most Bang for your Buck

Pros:
Balanced Suspension, Handles Well, Great Components, Plush Feel, Lightweight, Durable
Cons:
Tires
Best Uses:
Urban Biking, Downhill, Free Riding, Mountain Biking, Casual Riding
I bought this bike to replace my Giant Trance 1 which was a great Bike. I have ridden this bike about 20 miles now and am absolutely amazed at the difference the ACTIVE BRAKING PIVOT makes during high speed cornering under braking. This ABT system gave me a new level of confidence, my speed through trails that were mediocre on my Trance are now scary fast. The bike is also sexy in the flat black, almost stealth like. Also climbs really good and descends are great because no matter how fast I was coming down a hill, I always felt in control. The components work great, yes there are better, but for the money these are great and i was not disappointed. The Fox Shocks, do i even need to touch this" Best there is". I guess the only thing that I would Change about this bike would be the tires, if you ride over something small like a rock, the tire tends to kick out a bit more than usual but they ride fast which is good on paved trails and city riding. I suggest if you have the money to get this bike, shop around and you will see as I did that selection out there in this price range do not compare. Also when test riding it you WILL notice a ticking sound from the front wheel, this problem has been addressed by Trek and is an easy fix, just needs a little grease on the weld of the rim where it mates to the tire. Hope this helps, if you get this bike i am sure you will be just as happy as I am.

Lots of performance and fun

Pros:
Lightweight, Durable, Balanced Suspension, Handles Well, Great Components, Plush Feel
Cons:
Best Uses:
Downhill, Casual Riding, Mountain Biking, Free Riding
This bike has a lot of suspension especially when you really need to go over rocks or jumpy trails Some times when you want to jump over small trees stumps is really easy to make it go over them Well balance in the front the e2 does make a difference, RP-2 DRCV rear suspension is a big hit air can . Frame is light, avid elixir 5 brakes minimum force required for barking.
